Prayer & fasting

The Lord Jesus said to them these kinds goeth not but with prayer and fasting.

Fasting is not an easy job, but it involves strong faith, a knowledge of God's Word, effective prayer life and a discipline that will enable you to walk before God, God-Fearingly.

In Matthew, 17:14:21
This text shows how God healed a demon-possessed boy. The reason assigned in this text by Jesus Christ Himself was that His Disciples, could not cast out this devil, was because of their unbelief, and the weakness of their faith

Why Fast & Pray?

The Lord Jesus said to them these kinds goeth not but with prayer and fasting.

Fasting is not an easy job, but it involves strong faith, a knowledge of God's Word, effective prayer life and a discipline that will enable you to walk before God, God-Fearingly.

Now we all know that prayer is where we communicate with our Heavenly Father, He listens and when we are done, He speaks we listen and follows His Directions. Most people can pray but not everyone has the discipline to fast and pray and hence the reason why many victories are hard to attain for because is not all things that can be done by prayer only some do need radical persistent prayer and fasting. SO many yokes can be broken, strongholds will come crashing down and at the end of it all, miracles will spring forth.

Fasting is Voluntary: Not eating or drinking for whatever designated varied length of time, along with persistent prayer. And that is in the Spiritual Sense. Prayer and Fasting are where one abstains from food or drink.

Fasting is a detoxification treatment to release or free one from spiritual toxins. Text Isaiah 58:5-7, but from Isaiah 58:8: If we see the result of the effectiveness of your time in prayer and fasting.

I strongly believe that the power of prayer and fasting as it relates to praying is the spiritual atomic bomb that Jesus Christ as an example did, while He was here on earth for the 33!/2 years He lived on earth, and as He showed us by His Example, it is effective and one can get strongholds of evil and usher in great revivals, breakthroughs and testimonies.

N.B. How you begin and conduct your fasting and prayer will largely determine your success, make sure that your time spent with the Lord is meaningful and spiritually rewarding.

1. SET YOUR OBJECTIVE FOR FASTING: The question is asked, Why am I fasting? Is it for spiritual renewal, health, guidance or difficult situations?

2. PRAY SPECIFICALLY AND STRATEGICALLY: In other words tell Him openly what you desire and pray with the Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding of the Holy Spirit.

3. MAKE YOUR COMMITMENT AND FOLLOW THROUGH: Be aware of distractions and temptations.

4. DECIDE HOW LONG A TIME YOU WILL FAST FOR BY GOD'S LEADING: A day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 40 days or more.

N.B. All beginners should start slowly and build up their fasting and prayer through faith, to a longer period.

5. KNOW THE KIND OR TYPE OF FASTING GOD WANTS YOU TO UNDERTAKE. Such as a completely dry fast, a water fast, or a fruit fast. A dry fast can be split up in 2 ways. Take for instance you decide to fast for 3 days one can fast and not stop meaning, you will either eat or drink, or you can set a specific time say from 6 am -6 pm without eating or drinking. anything buy after you will eat or drink, this fast is known as a COMPLETE FAST, this is the fast that both Jesus and Moses did this is because that grace was given to them, not everyone has this kind of grace, so please consult your doctor at any level of fasting or plans to do depending on your health issues.

Jesus fasted Matthew 4:2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights He then became hungry, and Moses in Exodus 34:28.

PARTIAL FAST: Can vary in duration from part of a day to weeks, a partial fast abstains from certain foods or drinks for that particular time. In Daniel 1:12 Daniel and the three Hebrews boys eat partially in refusal to eat from the King's foods offered to idols. They ate vegetables and water for 10 days.

We also see that Daniel's fast was a partial fast, his basic idea behind his fast was to abstain from all kinds of meat, no tasty dainties, no wine, and no oil for their skin for 21 days, Daniel 10:3.

The world has adopted the specifics of Daniel's fasting because the power that comes and the answers to his prayer that he saw are something we long for today. Daniel's fasting was not just powerful because fasting was his habit nor what he gave up, but Christians who fast will see answers and feel refreshed regularly.

ESTHER'S FAST: A fast for a breakthrough situation this type of fasting is a combination of the complete 3-day fast and a group fast. The group prays and fast over a specific issue together. This is powerful and effective and is seen repeatedly in scripture. Esther 3:16.

FASTING: This is a way to draw near, seek and humble yourself before God to receive the breakthrough you are longing for.

GROUP FASTING: Group fasting can be powerful on a personal and corporate level. This type of fasting can be a variation of any of the different types of Biblical fasting. The main point is that everyone is in agreement and is fasting about the same thing.

Often times churches come together to pray for a particular matter as they come together to pray in Agreement great things can happen, Matthew 18:18-20. If two or three shall agree as

touching or believing anything it shall be done by the Father which is in Heaven. Whatever we lose on earth is bound in Heaven and whatever we lose on earth is loosed in Heaven.

ISOLATION FAST OTHERWISE KNOWN AS SABBATICAL FAST: Jesus often drew from His disciples to spend time alone with God, Luke 5:16. Time alone with God is hard to find but it is one of the most effective of all the different types of biblical fasting alone, in Solitude. NO distraction from hearing God's voice. This type of fasting takes practice and great planning to achieve. Time alone with God is powerful for reaching a spiritual breakthrough.
